2008 PLANNED EVENTS
Even though P2O is marketed as a ‘casual Porsche party', there are many great ways to keep yourself entertained during your day in Oxford, Ohio.
The Elms Holiday Inn Hotel serves as our central gathering place before, during, and after the event. With its new location right in the center of uptown Oxford, the Elms is within walking distance to anyplace you might wish to go. Additionally, the Elms offers guests a covered, secure parking garage located directly across the street. For those spending the night, the Elms is a great location and facility. There are other motels located in Oxford – some within walking distance of the downtown area.
A lot of folks will be arriving Friday and spending the night. The gathering place for Friday evening will be the bar in the Elms Hotel. Come have a beverage with some of the nicest Porsche folks you’ll ever meet!
On Saturday, Porsches start arriving very early in the morning. We have the entire downtown Oxford area for our exclusive use. Cars may be parked anywhere upon arrival. With 300 cars expected, the best parking spots (in front of the best food and drink places) will quickly go first. The Oxford streets open at 6am so it's advisable to set your wake-up alarm early.
The People’s Choice Car Show runs throughout the day on Saturday with the Top-35 vote-getters honored with P2O's venerable brick trophies that pay homage to the quaint brick-lined streets of Oxford that play host to the event.. All Porsches present will be in the same class -- and each registered car gets one ballot on which they can cast votes for their ten favorite cars. At the end of the day, the Top-35 winners will be asked to park their cars in the central plaza for the general public to see.
Thoe Top-35 vote-getters will receive their awards under the bandshell and will then lead our group out of uptown Oxford to Hueston Woods State Park – about seven miles up the windy southwestern Ohio roads. Last year we had enough cars to claim the crown of the longest moving line of Porsches in Ohio history. This year we hope to set another new record.
After the show, lunch and dinner are on your own. Grab your (new) friends and go to any of the many restaurants in the uptown Oxford area. From hamburgers to fine continental cuisine, Oxford has something for everyone. Additionally, Oxford has a fine variety of ‘local watering holes’ -- and all of them are within easy walking distance of the Elms Hotel.
The beautiful Miami University campus is adjacent to the downtown area and many take the opportunity to take a walking tour of the campus. Miami truly looks like ‘what a college was ‘meant to look like’.
All day on Saturday P2O organizers and sponsors will give away over $2,000 worth of great door prizes. Each registered car is automatically entered into the drawing. Listen closely for your name to be announced over the P.A. system.
Sunday offers a morning road rally organized by the professionals at Scenic Road Rallies of Sunman, Indiana. Pre-registered cars are just $30.00 ($40.00 walk-up) as a pre-defined route through the beautiful western Ohio back roads gives P2O attendees a chance to compete against other cars. It's a perfect way to end your P2O weekend before heading home.
